MASS
We will attend Mass on Wednesdays and special days with the entire elementary school at Blessed Sacrament Church, 10:00am. You are more than welcome to join us for the Banquet. Please sit with us in the front on the left hand side.
As the second semester approaches, I will continue to assist students to focus on the Liturgy of the Eucharist. Often I remind them to "keep your eyes on the prize" (face forward) -- the prize is Jesus! Also, I encourage them to sing out loud (praising the LORD with their voices), sit, stand, and kneel appropriately (praising the LORD with their bodies ). Singing praises to the LORD is praying twice! Sitting in the pew quietly throughout Mass has been pretty simple for most students; however, keeping feet off the pew has been a challenge.
Please encourage attentive behavior during the Sabbath Day Mass your family attends together at your home parish.
Rejoice in the LORD, always! Again I say rejoice!
Phil. 4:4
READING
The second semster brings a lot ... a lot, a lot, a lot ... more reading. And I couldn't be more excited about everyone's enthusiasm about reading. Thank their kindergarten teacher!!! The pre-reading work with this group has been very well presented!
As we continue to review letter sounds, we constantly add new sounds (blends, digraphs, dipthongs) to the pool of sounds for reading our "crazy" languange. WORD WALL WORDS are growing, growing, growning!! These words are important to learn and know without sounding them out. In fact, many can not be sounded out.
"I am the vine, you are the branches."
John 15:5

WRITING
The second semester will have increased writing ... not just in the morning with writing stories, etc., but writing in all subjects with journal writing and explainations of learning taking place. Inventive Spelling will still be accepted, however, many words will have to be spelled correctly without too much help. Our Word Wall is growing each week and students may always use their resources to spell words correctly. Also, spelling words should now be spelled correctly in writing. If not, I will just point out that it's mispelled and help students use their resources to find the correct spelling.
PUBLISHING CENTER NEWS:
I've challenged students to write a story to take to the ASA Publishing Center. They will feel so special having a book published.
"I know well the plans I have in mind for you."

MATH
Adding and Subtracting continues with Math Minutes. Probably better known as Skill-and-Drill, the Math Minutes are a timed method to help student use mental math faster and faster to become more proficient in basic math computation. These Math Minutes start at 3 minutes. .... as students use less and less time, I will decrease the amount of time allowed to finish the sheet of addition and subtraction problems.
This method also serves another purpose: to ease students into timed test taking situations and release them from potential "test anxiety" issues.
